Frequently Asked Questions

I’ve always been afraid to go to the dentist. Can you help me?

Absolutely! Dr. Sinkin and the team is dedicated to your comfort and creating a safe, welcoming environment where your needs always come first. We understand that past dental experiences can leave lasting “battle scars,” and we take those concerns seriously.

Being aware of your anxiety enables us to be  responsive to your individual needs, so we encourage open conversation about your worries and concerns. While we can’t promise that dental appointments will become your favorite pastime, we can promise you’ll genuinely enjoy visiting with us.

After all, it’s not really a dental visit without the “visit” part—and our patients truly do like spending time with our friendly team! Many of our most anxious patients have become some of our biggest advocates. We’d love to help you join that group.

Great question! Preventive dental care—including routine examinations, cleanings, cavity treatment, gum disease care, and even root canals when necessary are not only safe during pregnancy but strongly recommended.

Healthy gums and teeth free of infection and inflammation are now recognized as an essential part of good prenatal care. Think of it as taking care of both you and your baby! Elective procedures like cosmetic dentistry or non-emergency surgery are best saved for after your little one arrives.

If you’re expecting a baby, just let us know when you schedule your appointment so we can ensure you’re as comfortable as possible.

Yes, absolutely! Pain is your body’s way of telling you something needs attention, even when everything looks fine on the surface. A cracked tooth, for example, may appear perfectly intact but can cause significant discomfort when you bite down.

Think of it like a car making a strange noise—you wouldn’t ignore that, right? Your teeth deserve the same attention. The sooner we can identify and address the issue, the more comfortable you’ll be and the simpler the treatment is likely to be.

While we don’t participate in dental HMOs or insurance networks, more than half of our patients have dental insurance, and we’re happy to help! We file insurance claims on your behalf and assist qualified patients in getting reimbursed by their insurance companies.

Our office manager Sandra is your go-to person for all things insurance-related. She’s incredibly knowledgeable and will work with you to maximize your benefits. Give us a call at 212-685-3040 to discuss your specific situation. We do everything we can to make the insurance process as painless as possible.

We do our best to keep fees reasonable and transparent. For example, if you have recent X-rays, bring them along, there’s no need to repeat what’s already been done.

When you call for your appointment, let us know about any specific concerns so we can focus on what matters most to you. We’ll always provide complete information about costs upfront, so you can make the best decision for your oral health and budget.

Cold sensitivity can range from a simple “you’re overdue for a cleaning” situation to something more serious that needs attention. The good news? We can usually identify the cause quickly and help you get relief.

Sometimes it’s as straightforward as removing built-up plaque and tartar. Other times, it might indicate a cavity or other issue that’s easily treatable when caught early. Either way, we recommend scheduling an appointment to be safe—and to get you back to enjoying that ice cream without wincing!

It’s a fair question! When replacing a missing tooth permanently, dentists typically have two main options: a bridge or an implant. Each has different cost considerations, both upfront and long-term.

The “best value” depends on your specific situation, including your oral health, lifestyle, and long-term goals. We’ll always discuss all your options transparently, including costs, so you can make the decision that’s right for you.
