The evening before Christmas Eve, I was taking care of one of my many favorite dental patients (let’s call her “Sara”). While we were exchanging holiday wishes, she remarked about what a wonderful year this had been and how much she was looking forward to the new year.
Sara had been working in human resources and recruitment for a large TARP-receiving commercial bank and had been laid off about eight months ago. Between a decent severance package and personal savings, she decided that it was a good time to take a “time out” and recharge her batteries. Besides, she knew the job market wasn’t good, so why not?
Sara has used the time productively: she helped a friend with a child-care crisis, she got back in shape (she looks marvelous), and she reflected upon and re-ordered her priorities.
Sara is thankful for “the gift” that she was given. She is refreshed and excited to begin 2010 with the energy to renew her career.
